Smokie has an irrefutable reputation for being one of the original superstars of rock and roll; the band gained immense popularity in the eighties, and their "Greatest Hits" compilation is undoubtedly a collector's item. The producers have painstakingly compiled thirteen of their biggest hits onto one splendid album.
The album is a brilliant representation of superior musicianship and extraordinary teamwork. "I'll Meet You Tonight" is a perfect example of the band's unequivocal competence, while "Whiskey in a Jar" and "Wild Angels" showcase the talent of guitarist Alan Silson. The music has an indisputably melodic tone and every piece is pure perfection.
Smokie represents each instrument adequately and no note seems misplaced. The band's style is actually a fusion of eighties rock and blue-grass techniques; and while the album isn't really thought-provoking, it definitely makes for good listening.
